*a, an and the with singular nouns.
*Rules:
1)we use a or an with singular nouns only.
-Example: a girl, an orange

2)we use a with an with singular nouns which begins with consonants sounds.
(consonants:b,c,d,f,g,h,k,l,m,n,p,q,r,s,t,v,w,x,y,z)
-Example: a computer, a town, a unit

3)we use an with singular nouns which begin with vowels sounds.
(vowels:a,e,i,o,u)
-Example: an orchid, an examination, an heiress

4)we also use a before adjectives with consonants sounds and an before adjectives with vowels sounds.
-Example: a shopkeeper, an artist

5)we use a or an when we speak of someone or something for the first time. we use the when we mention that person or thing a second time.
-Example: I found a purse just now.

6)we use the when it is clear to be listener or reader which person or thing we are referring to
-Example: My car is at the workshop in Campbell Road.

7)we use the when there is only one such thing.
-Example: The air is fresh this evening.

8)We usually use the before ordinal numbers.
-Example:Today is the 20th of February
